News: Rhys Jones...

Arctic Trilogy 2007

Rhys Jones was the guest speaker at the Southampton & Fareham Chamber of Commerce Boat Show lunch on the 14th September 2007. The Chamber members were 300 strong and Rhys gave a very entertaining and insightful speech. Over £2,000 was also raised for Rhys charity, in which he auctioned several personal items

On behalf of the Directors and Events Team of the Southampton & Fareham Chamber of Commerce, I'd like to extend a big thank you for all your help and assistance in making our 2007 Boatshow lunch the success it was. Rhys, I have to say was a brilliant find, thank you. As our members were leaving they were full of compliments and praise and there is no doubt in my mind that all those present thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Arctic Trilogy 2007: Details...

Arctic Trilogy will combine the two sports of sailing and mountaineering to create a unique expedition for 2007.

The Approach: To sail from Northern Iceland to the coast of Greenland. From here, Rhys and his team will stand-alone and unsupported. The yacht will sail away whilst the team venture into the mountains on skis, dragging sleds, and carrying heavy rucksacks.

The climbs:

Once Rhys and his team reach the Watkins Mountain Range they will set up Base Camp, home for the next four weeks. They will make ascents of the three highest mountains in the Arctic Circle, then move on to explore and conquer unclimbed peaks. The total height gain over the trip will be twice the height of Everest, in less than half the time.

Sponsorship:

Rhys and his team are looking to bring onboard a sponsor(s) who can embrace this environmentally friendly, record breaking, and truly adventurous challenge. His team's focus throughout will be to travel self sufficiently just like early explorers, having minimal or no impact on the environment.

Quote Rhys:

Unlike our forefathers there will be no funding from organisations such as the Royal Geographical Society, which is why we need to find great partners to support this truly amazing Mission.
