We are absolutely thrilled: disabled yachtsman and inspirational speaker Geoff Holt received an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List on Saturday for services to disabled sailing..
Geoff has broken boundaries and encouraged many. In 2007 Geoff was the first disabled person to sail around Great Britain. Geoff, who was paralysed from the chest down in a swimming accident at the age of 18 sailed the 1,500 miles, solo, around the coast of Great Britain in a 15ft trimaran dinghy. Later that year, Geoff was voted BBC South Sports Personality of the Year
Setting his sights and goals higher, this year he became the first quadriplegic to sail the 2,700 mile journey across the Atlantic on a 60ft purpose built catamaran Impossible Dreamto revisit the place where he received his life-changing injury.
Geoff currently serves on the Paralympic Committee and is a disability ambassador. He delivers some powerful messages in a very entertaining way and audiences respond well to his positive attitude and world view: his personal mantra is ‘no excuses’. Geoff delivers after dinner (both corporate and sporting dinners); keynotes on topics such as courage in tough times as well as speaking at award ceremonies to great acclaim. As someone once joked, Geoff is now the most admired disabled sailor since Nelson!
